Safe Zone Shelters, Inc. was formed in 2008 by Steve and Cindy Willis in response to what we saw as a safety need for the residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Tornadoes are becoming more common place in our state and many homes (ours included) do not have a basement (although even with a basement we would worry about being buried in debris).

Our first hand experience with two tornadoes in one day really proved to us how vulnerable we were when our county is under a severe weather warning. The following article from the Caroline Directions magazine highlights our ordeal:
